Sustainability is one of our organisational values, and we strive to put people and planet first in our work.
Progress so far
Reducing our organisational emissions
- We are working with sustainability consultancy Useful Projects to calculate our organisational emissions and take steps to reduce them. We hope to share more of this progress in 2024.
Our office environment
- We want to make our office and working environment as sustainable as possible, including with better recycling, ethical suppliers and repurposing old equipment.
Some recent improvements include:
- Having a dedicated service for recycling paper products such as hand towels, kitchen roll, serviettes which are not covered by the existing communal contract. This accounts for about 40% of our total waste.
- Changing to have LED lighting throughout the vast majority of the office.
- Working on installing sensors in the areas of the office which do not currently have them so all lights will switch off when the spaces are not occupied.
People we work with
- We aim to work with current suppliers and contractors with excellent green credentials, and are reviewing sustainability factors of all our current contractors.
For example:
- Greenzone (our cleaning company) use electrical vehicles and environmentally friendly cleaning plant-based cleaning products and CDL (our electrical testing company) staff only travel by electric vehicles or public transport.
Supporting staff to be more sustainable
- Staff can receive personal consultations in the office with Citizens’ Advice 1066 about their home energy use.
- We provide staff with free energy-saving equipment for their homes.
Climate action in our work
As well as actions taken across SFCT, individual trusts have a particular focus on climate change. From retrofitting homes to bringing clean energy to refugee camps to supporting the global movement to divest from fossil fuels, the trusts support a wide range of climate action.
