An inclusive place to work
We want everyone who works for us to feel welcomed, respected, supported and valued. We believe everyone should be treated with equity, and that diversity of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences helps us achieve better things in our work.
We have been actively developing our approach to DEI for several years, and it is a key area in our Learning and Impact Plan. Our work to create a diverse and inclusive environment includes:
- Disability Confident Employer – We are officially recognised as a Disability Confident Employer.
- Flexible working policies – to support staff who want or need different working patterns.
- Staff networks – Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Ambassadors and Staff Representation Group (SRG) are a sounding board for office-wide initiatives, creating space for safe conversations and helping us learn from each other.
- Listening to our people – we are working hard to create opportunities to listen to our staff, including undertaking annual staff surveys. We’ve won an ‘Outstanding Workplace award’ two years in a row for our work on employee engagement.
- Analysis – we undertake gender and ethnicity pay gap analysis (voluntarily), and have created action plans to drive forward improvements.
- Inclusive recruitment – We work with a number of partners to help us recruit from under-represented talent pools including Leonard Cheshire Change100 internships, Charityworks placements, and the 2027 Programme. We use the Applied recruitment platform which is specifically designed to tackle bias in recruitment.
- Accessibility – We have an on-going programme of work that aims to ensure our working environment, and the way in which we work, is accessible to all.
- Training – Unconscious bias and DEI awareness support for all staff delivered in a variety of ways. We also hold multiple staff away days and events throughout the year that feature DEI related sessions.
